Posted by anne they might have shredded a nearby kleenex, or dug the materials up from somewhere. the other finches could have tossed the nesting material, and the others could have pulled it closer, and finally into the cage. Even if I demystified the magic tricks, these birds are magical little things, like tiny little messengers. --Previous Message--

they might have taken the nesting material out of a nest that they had built, that you overlooked. They are crazy like that.
: I have 3 male finches and 3 female
: finches, and when I got them they
: were all In the same cage and the
: males built the nests with store
: bought thread and It all was well.
: Then about a month later we were
: struck with tragedy when we lost a
: male when He escaped his cage got
: scared when someone entered the room
: and slammed into the window and
: broke his neck, Then we lost a
: female when we found her dead in the
: nest, Not sure what happened to her
: but it looked like she panicked when
: she got her foot trapped in the
: wicker nest (her leg was pulled out
: of shape) Anyway........... We had
: no Idea who was with who and which
: female and male died or anything.
: So we got another male and female
: (always from different places to
: deter inbreeding) and we split the
: males and females into separate
: cages for about a week then we were
: going to put them all back in the
: same cage, After 3 days of
: separation I was surprised to see on
: the ground of the male cage a huge
: bundle of nesting material that was
: on the ground of the female cage the
: day before.......Now here's where I
: get confused, the male and female
: cages were apart by 6" and
: about 2" lower. How the hell
: would that happen? No one takes
: care of them but me (my wife doesn’t
: even know what the white
: "stuff" is for) and have
: not or could not escape (or if they
: did could not get back in) Any Ideas
: on how this is possible?
