Truth be told Robin I just know Jamie and not very well. I've met her twice in a something like seven years What little connection we have is from my roommates rescue orginization.
I gave up saying somebody is right or wrong years ago. I just choose to disagree with them is all. Don't really like arguing, flaming, bashing but don't mind a rational exchange of views/ideas.
As for the last I will concede I could have said it better. Yes I have had filas that turned on and went defensive/protective when with me. Hell thats part of the dogs job on site to be the early warning system. What they didn't do was continue with that behavior when told not to. Thats a direct result of the training. On their own that switch is locked in the on position and they are free to do what they think is correct.
In 14 years I have had zero unprovoked bites or attacks and I've only had two instances where the fila in question chose to disregard me and not stop.In both cases the reasons for the bites were legit just not warranted because of the out command. I'll take the blame for both of them as a flaw/chink in the training regimen for slacking off in the out exercises. Its all in the training and the skill of the trainer
I don't think this breed is for everyone and I have discouraged people from getting one because I knew it was way too much dog for them. I do make it a point to elaborate on the temperment and drive of the breed. Then I tell them how long it takes me to get the Fila I want 2 to 4 years and that really settles it. Very few people want to work that hard
