Classmate Charlie Kaulukukui invites you to join him and his friends in a "bonding with nature" experience in Waipio Valley on the Big Island over the August 15-17 (Friday-Sunday) weekend.
Charlie will be there a day earlier (14th) to take part in some Hawaiian cultural activities. He will meet classmates on Friday morning (15th), and head into Waipio Valley; emerging on Sunday afternoon (17th)to catch the flight home.
You'll need to bring:
- sleeping bag (sleeping in a dorm-like building on mats)
- tabis or junk sneakers and junk clothes (going to work in the taro patch)
- insect repellent
As Charlie says, "Other than that, we will bathe in the stream, use the outhouse, running water is the stream, gather and cook some of our foods from the surroundings, catch prawns, and get taught Hawaiiana from my friend, Kia Fronda. No electricity! We'll have a grand time!"
If anyone is interested, or you need more info, please page Charlie (549-4684), and he'll get back to you.
