So that each island will know how much monies they raised and what they are spending for their patient services, cancer awareness programs, etc. Part of the monies that is raised go to research. These monies are sent to the National Office and are distributed to those who apply and are approved by peers for research. The research made does not only benefit mainland people but all over the world, including our state. "The ACS has made a lot of strides in Cancer Research. There are more survivors now than ever before due to the advances made in cancer detection and treatment. ACs has funded over 30 Nobel Prize winners in cancer research so we know that the monies we raise go to something very much needed." When queried re the percentage donated toward research, Ms Bustamante responded: "40% of the money raised in Relay as in any other ACS fundraisers are dedicated to research and program development.
