Posted by FHS '65 Alumni Club on 11/7/2005, 4:25 pm It’s been 40 years since we graduated from Farrington High School. Where have all the years gone? Who would have thought, and what is truly amazing, is that after all these years 180 classmates and significant others thought strongly enough about the spirit of fellowship and camaraderie to share their presence with each other in celebration of this 40th milestone at the reunion banquet held on October 28, 2005 at Don Ho’s Island Grill. The FHS Class of ‘65 40th reunion celebration brought together classmates with four days of activities, each with substantial classmate participation. Each activity was a unique experience and provided classmates with treasured memories. To appropriately or accurately convey each events’ impact on the participating classmate is realistically impossible. However, these events typically generated positive feelings of fellowship judging by the warm and “happy to see you” smiles worn on the faces of classmates. Raised eyebrows reflected surprised reactions when encountering classmates long forgotten. Spontaneous laughter, heard throughout the banquet evening, was a typical response to “I can’t believe it’s you”, or “long time no see”, or “aren’t you _(name)_?” Handshakes, hugs, and kisses, consistent with people who share a common bond as classmates, was witnessed throughout the night. On few occasions, pretending to know someone while struggling to read name tags was a common sight but understood by all that this was acceptable and normal behavior. After all, 40 years is a long time. Classmates who attended a reunion banquet for the first time vowed to be at future reunion events after experiencing and enjoying the uniqueness of the gathering, the fun, the pleasant surprises, and the reflections of yesteryear. In addition to reviving fond memories of years past, it was refreshing, entertaining, and above all it was the warmth of fellowship and camaraderie that made this 40th reunion an unforgettable and treasured event. It was really like that! Mahalo to all who participated.
