Check the gasket between the carb spacer and intake. Very common to get a vacuum leak there. JL

: Guys,
:
: I've got a 1962 Falcon with the 170
: motor. The carburetor is a Holley
: with the tag number C2DE. The
: carburetor had a lot of miles on it
: and was running rough. In order to
: get any kind of decent idle, the
: idle needle had to be open over
: three turns, which seemed like a
: lot.
:
: I bought a rebuilt version of this
: carburetor from eBay. It arrived in
: good condition and looked really
: nice. I installed it on the car this
: morning. I checked the idle needle
: and found that it was open about 1
: 1/2 turns...just what the rebuilding
: specs call out. I started the car,
: let it warm up, and found that the
: idle was very rough. I put a
: screwdriver in the slot and started
: to adjust the idle mixture. I had to
: back it out another 1 3/4 turns to
: get it to idle reasonably well. This
: was just like the old carburetor,
: although in all other respects it
: seemed to run better.
:
: I could only think that the problem
: might be a vacuum leak of some kind.
: I disconnected and plugged vacuum
: line to the automatic
: transmission...no effect. I
: disconnected and plugged the line to
: the vacuum wipers...no effect. I
: disconnected and plugged the line to
: the PCV valve (which I had installed
: myself, some time ago)...no effect.
:
: Does anyone have any suggestions on
: what might be causing this problem?
:
: Thanks in advance.
