I guess that I would suggest a vacuum leak also. If you have an automatic transmission, there will be a vacuum line that runs from the intake manifold to the modulator on the transmission. You might give it a check. In fact, check all of the vacuum lines that connect to the engine. Any one of them could be the source of the problem...especially if they are old and haven't been replaced in a long time.
Could also be the carburetor. If it has a lot of miles on it, you might consider rebuilding it. A sticking valve or broken valve spring also might make the engine run poorly.
