I'm not that familar with the early falcons, but with a 200 I6 the C4 could be a good option if you want to stay with an automatic. It would require a different bellhousing and rear mount, along with incidentals like speedo cable, linkage, and shift indicator. All the parts can be sourced from 60's and 70's vintage donor cars. It is certainly doable, just depends on how much you want to invest and how much work you want to put in. The 200 is a great motor to start from. Since you are starting from scratch, I would make the investment to go to a C4 at least, and maybe even consider an AOD transmission if you plan to keep the car.

: Thanks Bob. Would there be a better
: trans. to put behind the 200 cid
: that is now in the car. The car came
: with a 144 cid I think when it was

: There was plenty of them used, so a
: lot of Falcons will have them. Best
: place to look is in a junkyard,
: because everyone that replaces them
: with a manual or C4, just throws
: them away. They're not a very
: desirable unit so one should be very
: reasonable in cost.

: I guess I have the Falcon bug. I
: just
: bought another 63. It needs a lot of
: work but is solid and everything is
: there except the Fordamatic 2 speed
: and drive shaft. Will these be hard
: to find and what price range should
: I expect? Thanks Gary
