62 Leaf Springs

I ordered new standard leaf springs. The leaf springs on my car are on top of the axle and I notice in the shop manual they are held on by U-Bolts under the axle. Can anyone tell me what the story is. Has mine in the past been changed or was there 2 different applications? Is there any pros or cons to either way Would one give a higher ride or what was the standard ride?
