The above suggestions are good and will probably solve the problem. But if they don't, you might look into this.
If the cooling system was empty before you filled it, there might be air trapped that is preventing the thermostat from being in contact with the hot coolant and keeping it from opening. One of my service books says to fill the system, then raise the front of the car to "burp" the system, then lower it and add additional coolant as necessary.
