hey Gary,
If your radiator is clear and the car is overheating with it being normal temperature outside theres a couple things you can check.
First maybe your thermostat is not working. It's only 6 dollars to replace unless you decide to replace the hose too while your at it that would add another 10.00 .try a 160 degree if you live in a really hot place to keep it open and flowing. or maybe around 180 in other areas. I have a 62 falcon 144 and I put a mustang fan from a 65. It has one more blade and it did the job of just that little extra cooling in South Florida . The needle stays right in the middle now I never had a problem since. 1 extra blade on the fan makes a big difference. Watch your hands working around there if the car is started you don't want to loose a finger on the fan.
If you take the 20 minutes to replace the thermostat it is a very easy job but be carefull when you dissonnect the 2 bolts holding the thermostat in the engine after you remove the upper hose going from the radiator to the engine.. If they havent been removed in a million years and you try and force the bolt loose, if they are stuck you might break one off. Most likely you won't have that problem.
Good luck . It's probably an easy fix.
