I did the swap on my 1960 Ranchero. Look on E-bay for one wire alternators. It has worked great for the past two years. I also noticed that the car runs cooler. My dad pointed out that the alternator has so much less drag that my six isn't working as hard. I don't know if it's true, but the car does run cooler. One tip for installation: On my six I had to remove the fan and water pump pulley to remove the bolt that holds on the adjuster for the generator. Instead of replacing the bolt, put a stud in there, with a nut and washer for the adjuster. On mine, the adjuster bracket was just hitting the fan on the alternator. If I'd put a stud in there removing and grinding the bracket would have been a lot easier. I used the old gerator bracket with a spacer tube to make up the difference, and I welded up the adjuster piece out of the old generator adjuster and a curved piece of another alternator adjuster. I also put an amp gauge under the hood (I wired it up wrong but someone on this site sent me the correct diagram. Works great.) Hollar if you need pix.

: I've seen people talk about changing
: out the generator on their Falcon
: with an alternator. The general
: concenses seems to be a one-wire
: alternator. I purchased an
: alternator mounting bracket from
: Auto Krafters last summer, but now
: I'm wondering what kind of
: alternator should be used to make
: the swap. Will the GM types work, or
: do you need to get an alternator
: made especially for Ford products?
: Thanks
