To tell a 170 from a 200 just count the freeze plugs on the right side of the block. A 170 has three; a 200 has five.
The tranny will depend on what it came off of. As long as it's a "case fill" (location of the dipstick tube) C4 you can swap bellhousings and converters to make it fit a 170/200 engine. If it's a "pan fill" case there's no small six bellhousing available as far as I know. The mount and linkage will depend on what the donor car was. A floor shift C4 (Mustang, etc.) will have a backwards linkage from a column shift one. JL
