This carb is a Holley, but it has the conventional power valve that installs into the bottom of the float bowl near the main jet.
I had a similar thing happen on the Autolite 4-bbl carb that was installed on my 1971 Javelin. Everything was fine when I left for work that morning. When I got to work, it was running rough, and by the time I got home, it would barely keep running and operating the throttle caused gas to spill out of an opening on the top of the carb. Fortunately, I had a new float in my garage, so I put it in and the problem has never reoccurred.
But as Brian pointed out below, it could also be a defective needle.
