I changed the fluid in my Fordomatic a couple of years ago, and the only gasket that I could find was a neoprene gasket made by Fel-Pro. It was very thin (maybe 1/32") and the installation instructions stated that it MUST be installed dry, with no sealing agents applied. I was careful to flatten the gasket surface of the pan, and to clean the gasket surface of the tranny. Then I installed the gasket per the instructions and wouldn't you know it, the darned thing started leaking a few weeks after being installed. I tightened the pan bolts again, being careful not to over tighten them, but the leaking persisted. I had a local shop pull the pan and replace the gasket again, this time with sealing compound on the gasket. So far, so good!
