Jim, The 250 won't bolt up to the early transmission since it has a different bellhousing pattern. It's also taller and wider, by about 1-1/4 inch each way. Water pump is longer, so radiator to fan clearance is an issue. It can be done, but it's not a simple bolt-in like the 200.
: How about a 250 in the same car? Are
: there any 250's that are as easy a
: swap as the 79-down 200? If so, what
: donor vehicles should I look for?
:
: To use the 3-speed automatic behind
: that same 250 would be good too!

: Hi, All
:
: I have a 1962 Falcon station wagon
: which has high mileage and the
: engine is in need of an overhaul. I
: like the economy of the 170 six that
: is in it now. However, it would be
: nice to have a later model 170
: engine that has hydraulic lifters,
: rather than the solid lifters in the
: 62's motor. This car has the
: two-speed Fordomatic transmission in
: it. Will a later model engine drop
: in and bolt up to the bell housing
: and torque converter in the '62, or
: would this upgrade be more involved?
: Since this is a daily driver,
: expense is somewhat of an issue.
:
: Thanks in advance.
