I swapped out the 170 (which had been swapped for the 144) in my 60 Ranchero with a 66-200. Holes were drilled and tapped for both the small (mine) and larger bell housing. The 66 motor had an alternatorr, but the 66 motor had the drilled and tapped holes for the generator. Doing the motor swap was way easier and way faster than changing the plugs on my Mustang GT. Good luck!
: Hi, All
:
: I have a 1962 Falcon station wagon
: which has high mileage and the
: engine is in need of an overhaul. I
: like the economy of the 170 six that
: is in it now. However, it would be
: nice to have a later model 170
: engine that has hydraulic lifters,
: rather than the solid lifters in the
: 62's motor. This car has the
: two-speed Fordomatic transmission in
: it. Will a later model engine drop
: in and bolt up to the bell housing
: and torque converter in the '62, or
: would this upgrade be more involved?
: Since this is a daily driver,
: expense is somewhat of an issue.
:
: Thanks in advance.
