You should also have a timing light and dwell meter if you want to tune up the engine yourself. To get TDC, remove coil wire for safety and #1 plug. Crank engine and feel for compression. Do this several times so you can feel the difference between compression and exhaust strokes. Stop the cranking immediately and note mark on front damper. It should align with TDC on our timing mark on the front cover. You will now have TCD. Observe whether the rotor is pointing to #1 on your distributor cap. If you removed your distributor earlier and cranked the engine, you could be 180 degrees off. Check your wires to make sure they are sequenced. If the car sat for a long time, you may have problems with gas. It shellacs over time and can clog up everything from the sending unit inside the tank, fuel lines, fuel pump and carb. You may have to do a complete cleanout and some point. Check your gas from the fuel pump by removing the line to the carb and place it into a glass jar and crank the engine to see what comes out. You should get some good pulses of gas. If you have gas problems with the car sitting, you will have to start at the tank or you will just be contaminating the system again. --Previous Message--
