I felt like someone was writing this about me... isolated minority syndrome. ‘The cause of this syndrome is a lack of identification model. The so called “pervert” has no knowledge of any appropriate script for the paraphilic behaviour that would satisfy him. He has no contact with experienced paraphiliacs who could teach him the most appropriate way to act out his wishes and the pitfalls to avoid. He does not even have an understanding of his own identity. And he tries to suppress his paraphilic fantasies because he does not accept them himself.’ I have posted on your site, Richard. It seems to me that you may hold more insight into my feelings than I do. Please contact me at my e-mail or on the www.recoverychat.com site. I need some insight here, bud. Thanks _________________________ "Experienced paraphiliacs who could teach him the most appropriate way to act out his wishes and the pitfalls to avoid.” I think that my conditioned behaviour has its roots as a symptom of some hidden factors and anguish in my life. I developed a paraphilia as a ‘coping mechanism’ (albeit maladaptive). It came about as a result of environmental factors that influenced my path. But I don’t have to be stuck there forever. The ‘coping mechanism’ did not help heal the roots of the problems. It only distracted me. It helped me avoid dealing with them. So the problems remained. The ‘coping mechanism’ turned out to really be a way of avoiding. Also my coping mechanism became a source of new problems. It was no longer only a coping mechanism, but now it was also one of the main things I could not cope with. The roots were deep. I felt helpless. Choked. Continuing this cycle is not in my best interest, and NOBODY has to buy into the idea that they do. The choice to continue or break the cycle is within your reach. You have the power to change... or not change. But unless you decide to get off this moving train you will continue on its path. I feel I should caution others about the previously mentioned “treatment” website. But you are all big boys and girls so at the end of the day the responsibility is yours alone. Best wishes.
