In the 70s I got a temp job over xmas as a security guard on various sites, Garston docks was one, forget the others. One site, lots of train wagons covered in tarp, tied by ropes. The regulars sent me to a small hut on the far side, told me to ring them if I saw something. Day 2 I saw a train being robbed and rang them to report it. End of the day they gave me two bags full of bottles of brown ale and tins of sausage and beans. They were the robbers and now I was in the gang. After I finished, weeks later, reported in the echo, they’d all been arrested going after a shipment of whisky. Lucky I wasnt there.
