He's not a fraud. He's a seasoned pro, who is old so his best days are behind him, and who is versatile being brought in to offer cover across the team.
He's old and unwanted so that made him someone that Everton could acquire.
Dyche knows that Patterson isn't quite ready, and you have to trust him to deal with young players in the right way. Look at the development of Mykolenko in the last few months for example. And look at the amount of shit that Mykolenko got when he was playing and wasn't ready.
If you want to blame anyone for this then look to the years of Koeman, Allardyce and Silva when we should have bought a young promising right back on the books to understudy Coleman. Totally overlooked and leaves us in a situation where we have a 35 year old back from a career threatening injury who was not fit at the weekend, and a 38 year old left winger, and a kid who isn't quite ready.
