Mum was in a syndicate at work and they got five and the bonus ball in the summer of 1996. £176,000 divided by 20 of them.
I'll never forget one of my mum's colleagues ringing to tell her. I took the call as they were at the pub. The colleague ended the call with "It's not a joke".
Mum and dad came home in the small hours, ratted. They'd been told and begun the celebrations straightaway.
It got us a new car, burglar alarm and bathroom suite (installed in Autumn 1997, so christened 'the Diana Suite' by my grandma).
