Union leaders are largely careerist melts who, at best, will make the odd "frustrated" speech while handing over the political fund. At the recent Labour conference, there were twice as many business guests as union delegates. Labour's issue is they're refusing to commit to public spending, even the dreaded PFI, needed even to shore up public services which are at breaking point. If they offer nothing beyond the current platitudes about growth, the Tories will regroup and come back. The reality is they'll do little more than further prepare the ground for a US healthcare system. Streeting is already making noises about reform and private capacity (which doesn't exist beyond physical buildings as many private staff are NHS staff doing overtime as it is), and every shadow minister is saying there's no major spending planned (with the obvious exception of defence). The Tories have been talking about this one being a good one to lose since Johnson won - the impact of fourteen years of underspend is going to hit very hard very soon and people don't remember who is to blame, they point the fingers at those in power. You only have to see how many idiots blamed Labour councils for massive budget cuts in the last election vox pops. Momentum are done. Lansman was always a suspiciously meltish character and he's currently criticising the left at every turn. There needs to be a genuine left wing party, but the issue is there are no young leaders with the profile to generate support. McDonnell's an arsehole, Sultana is too young and Burgon's thick as mince. Two shades of conservatism is the future. My honest advice to anyone under 40 is emigration.
