As an owner it is imparitive that you contact your nearest state tax office and go to their classes and get their publications.
As an owner you
make payroll contributions such as FICA and unemployment insurance.
Get to make all the rules and the employees answer to you.
Apparently you need to make sure they make minimum wage even if it is more then commission.
If you have renters
they are independant business owners and set own hours and rules, can have own retail, don't answer to you and are responsible for own successand income. Your income is set by rent.
Also there is an organization called SCORE that gives seminars that are worth while on the subject.
Book? don't know, everyone asks; no one has ever reccommended one.
Consult with experts, tax attorneys, CPA, SBA. employment commission, state Attorney general, etc.
