I have heard that too. I think it can be that the warmer section of the wax is being used as we work down in the pot. Check wax temp and use the hardened center to the outer melted edge. Heightened sensitivity can play a part as your client knows what to expect. Red skin usually a result of too warm for that skin if only on one side.
