Posted by ken wang on 5/18/2001, 9:38 am the idea of linking the email list to the "where are they now" page is probably most ideal. unfortunately the way we have set up the email list makes it difficult to do. the email list is basically a GIF image. (we did this to make it harder for spammers to lift email addresses from our web page.) the other problem is that this image changes frequently based on updates to the email list. so something like an image map that let's you click on a name on the email list to get to the "where are they now" submission would be very tedious to do. i like your idea of names appearing in the sidebar on the front page of the "where are they now section." this may be easier to do if we move to a frames format, something we will most likely move to in the future. our current design was implemented after careful thought about making the webpage the most simple and universally viewable format (ie. we wanted every possible web browser to be able to view it easily, including non-frames capable browsers). i think the majority of web browsers people use these days are frames-capable so we will probably do that in our next overhaul of the site. anyway, keep the suggestions coming and thanks for your input. ken
thanks for your comments. i think you have some very good ideas, some of which we have considered in the past.
