The 1891 census shows that Thomas Snalam and a Susannah Entwistle were together in Freckleton in 1891.Thomas's first wife Sarah Crabtree (my great, greatgrandmother) was presumably still in Bolton where my greatgrandfather James was born.In the 1881 census Susannah Entwistle was 25 and living with her mother Catherine Entwistle in Bolton. Catherine in 1881 was a widow of 68 and she was born in Scotland. In 1904 Thomas Snalam bought "The Ship Inn" at Freckleton. When Thomas Snalam died the Shippe Inn was passed over to his widow Susannah Snalam (nee Entwistle) In 1920 Edward Entwistle of Bolton as executor of Susannah Snalam (nee Entwistle) conveyed the property to himself. In 1923 the property was sold to Samuel Entwistle who in 1934 conveyed it to Samuel Johnstone Entwistle in whose ownership it remained until 1962 when it was purchased J.C.Swales and Co.It is now (2000) owned by Scottish and Newcastle Group.I also have Entwistle relations on another side of the family. Does anyone know of the Ship Inn connection.
