Thanks for your supportive words. This time I'm really to deal with these issues, especially since I never had a long term relationship and I'm turning 30 in a few months. Thanks again!
: Emily,
: I think you just start with small
: steps. I have the self medication
: with food, too. But if you break it
: out into small steps, practice the
: meditation techniques and work with
: your "Witness" self, you
: will begin to feel better.
:
: Although comforting the self with
: food seems embarrassing, please
: don't be so hard on yourself. We
: live in a culture that pushes this
: and gives mixed messages. We live in
: a culture that doesn't give out a
: healthy model for us to follow. I
: actually don't know ONE woman who
: doesn't struggle with this on some
: level, no matter what size they are.
: See yourself as an adventurer
: helping all of us in your quest for
: health.
:
: I believe the material in the book
: can help you. I found Geneen Roth's
: books helpful. Breaking Free from
: Compulsive Eating is a classic.
:
: Good luck and thanks for your
: courageous sharing!

: Hi everyone,
: Having just read John's book, there
: are a lot of questions that come to
: mind. One topic which I'm trying to
: battle is compulsive overeating. I
: try to stay with my feelings, but I
: realize that without food I am very
: unhappy and lonely. This addiction
: gives me great comfort although with
: it comes a great deal of shame. I
: have been sexually and verbally
: abused as a child and have problems
: with intimacy thus food helps me
: forget my problems. I know that
: this is MAJOR suppression....but,
: how do I get out of this cycle and
: be able to live my life to the
: fullest without the shame and the
: loneliness.
