I know the question was directed to you, hope you don't mind my comments...
How is it that humans have to ultimately become emotionally mute and or passionless in their quest for spirituality? #####
Humans do not have to ultimately become emotionally mute or passionless in their quest for sprituality! Quite the opposite the ultimate goal with the work besides higher consciousness is to regain our exuberance and spontaniety!

I've joined a couple of groups where I look at people's eye's and wonder if anyone's home. Or is this an American thing? I've met so many delightful Italians and French who are larger than life with their emotions. And they are lovely, highly spiritual beings. Americans as a rule seem threatened by emotions, don't you find? ######
Emotional trauma is a universal consequence throughout the entire world, it is not prejudice..
The French & Italians you were seeing probably had a few glasses of their favorite wine !
Everybody's number one talent is acting. If you come to a conclusion based on one observation you are kidding yourself.
