Sounds like you are experiencing the first phase of settling into a meditation, which usually involves some mind chatter and resistance. Accept it and keep breathing into the feeling as an experiment. My "meditation" practice comes from several years as a practicing Quaker, and I think I've learned something valuable in my spiritual practice about just sitting. (This is probably also emphasized in Eastern meditation traditions) At any rate, Quakers sit in silence for a pretty long time before a deeper, relaxed state emerges. It's called "centering down" ......For more after about 30 min I feel a definate shift into a safer, theraputic "higher self" type of realm. It doesn't matter what you call it or whether or not you have a spiritual discipline per se. But it probably does matter that there's some some kind of meditation exercise that allows for levels and phases of acceptance, release and realization.
It just takes a lot of practice. Feeling the peace and healing aspects of the actual RELEASE should keep us going.
I'm not sure if any of this information is very relevant to your question, but if anything just keep sitting and observing. JUst observe WHATEVER it is, and stay aware of the subtle changes that happen as the meditation deepens.

: Any thoughts in answer to the following
: questions would be appreciated:
: 1) When I try to breathe into a
: feeling I feel I'm just suppressing
: it further, like telling it to
: dissipate, instead of just being with
: it and watching it and feeling it.
: Does anyone else feel this way?
: Breathing for me seems good for
: generally lowering resistance to
: feeling and changing patterns of
: holding in energy, but not to work
: with a feeling when it's happening.
: Because when I consciously try to
: breathe into a feeling, it feels like
: I'm trying to change it (make it go
: away) instead of just feeling it.
: 2) Has anyone tried Reiki or other
: energy work as a supplement to the
: emotional clearing work, and was it
: helpful?
