Posted by James The best news of all is anyone can see the difference in the numbers of fish. Just a trip to any holding pool will tell the tale. Some so black with fish you canÂ’t see the bottom. So we all anxiously await the rains. Tonight and tomorrow are supposed to produce 30-40 mm of the wet stuff. If you werenÂ’t planning on visiting the Miramichi this fall I would seriously consider changing my plans. I wouldnÂ’t want to miss this. We are looking forward to an excellent fall season. With strong fall runs in the past few years and the river full of fish already you will probably have to stand behind a tree to tie your fly on. Despite a dry spell over the past few weeks this summer has turned out to be one of the best seasons in years. All branches of the Miramichi have seen a huge increase in the numbers of fish returning. In particular the numbers of large fish are way up.
Some of the rivers have been closed due to low water conditions. This in no way reflects the number of fish in the system this is more of an enforcement patrol issue. During this low water time the salmon congregate in cold water pools by the thousands and are susceptible to jigging and stress once hooked. The water levels improved slightly over the past week but the big story is the temperatures. Most branches are now on the cold side (being less than 15C). Fish are moving again and some bright fish have been spotted.
Keep your fly on the water,
James
I HAVE TWO WEEKS OF VACANT PRIME TIME AND WOULD VERY MUCH LIKE TO FILL THEM.
