I have been wanting to read Song of Fire and Ice for a long time but it is SO long, but maybe i can read it this summer. I like the Shannara and Word/ Void serises by Terry Brooks, they were my first real fantasy reads. Also the Recluse books by L.E. Modesitt JR. They have a different approach showing "average" people in their daily lives using magic and such. very awesome. The serise that i just finished what the Belgariad by David Eddings. A very good adventure of magic. Right now I am working on The Runelords by David Farland. Some other just one book ones are: The Secret of Dragonhome by John Peel, The Blue Sword/ The Hero and the Crown by Robin Mckinley.
