Posted by Terry on 5/23/2004, 1:41 pm, in reply to "Welcome back" Things calmed down for a little while after I delivered the manuscript, and now they're heating up again as I work on proposals for upcoming projects. Over the summer there will also be revisions to do on Triad and a copyedited manuscript to go over, and after that there will be typeset galleys to proofread. Books go through a lot of stages! Yup, I have gotten paid. A payment schedule is specified in every book contract--usually a percentage on signing, a percentage on acceptance of the manuscript, and a percentage on publication. More stages! The turnover between delivery and publication is usually shorter, although sometimes it can be even longer than this if the schedule has to be rejiggered and the book gets pushed back. In this case, the onus is entirely on me for taking longer than I should have to finish writing. I hate for readers to have to wait, but I feel better giving people the best book I can write, instead of something rushed. I fully expect you to let me know if it's worth the wait! :) Hey, I love jabberjaws. I'm one too! Any time you feel like posting, post as much as you want to. :) Okay, I'm way over my smiley quotient, so I better hit Send now. :) (aggh, did it again)
Very glad you're still here, Nick! I hoped we hadn't lost anybody during my absence. :)
