Hi, I haven't been on this website since it was set up. I knew that there was one being set up for bereaved parents as I remember suggesting early 2007 why there wasn't one so i am pleased one has been set up. I just want to give others hope that, although it is still painful, you can learn to live with your loss. you never fully come to terms with it but somehow you do keep going.
I lost my only child Maria in October 2006. She died during surgery at 4hrs old due to hypoplastic left heart syndrome, resticted atrial septum and a leaking mitral valve.
We did everything we could for her and know we at least gave her a chance. Due to my age I am unlikely to have another birth child- I am 43- but my husband and I decided to start adoption which was a very long and complex process and sometimes we wondered if we would get through it as it had only been just a year and a half since we had lost our daughter and we always felt at a disadvantage because we were monitored very closely. We were lucky in that we were very strong and supportive of each other as a couple which helped us. What had happened to us had made us stronger and given us an inner resilience. We finally were approved at the end of January this year and are waiting to be matched with a child so feel we have some light at the end of the tunnel. We feel excited and at the same time still sad about Maria but we know that will always be with us but I hope this gives hope to others who believe they will never feel happy again. XX
