Kelly, that's a great idea. I agree, locally produced meat is probably less likely to be contaminated. When we drive through Nebraska and Colorado and see all the giant feedlots with their mechanized meat production and the animals in misery, it's pretty sickening. You wonder what goes on there but don't really want to know.
Yes, we have great farmers markets here. I love going to them and coming home with some fantastic fresh food. I live in a very small village and it has an organic CSA (community supported agriculture). My husband and I also belong to an organic food co-op in a bigger city. It's really good for us to support all of their efforts and to stand up for quality food production.
I know I pay more for my food than some people do. But that's offset by what my garden produces and by not having candy, chips, soda, cigarettes, etc. in my grocery cart.
Upstate NY---that's a real pretty area.
