A while back I bought a package of "forbidden" black rice. Ironically, Dr. Oz did a segment about it right after I bought some. It's extremely high in antioxidants (higher than blueberries), as well as fiber, protein, and other good things. Have any of you tried it?
Yesterday I finally made some for the first time. I'm sold! It's delicious and beautiful. It cooks in just 30 minutes. The grains are smaller than white rice, and they turn shiny black when cooked. The flavor was rich, similar to wild rice.
It's pricey compared to other rice, so I won't have it all the time. I also feel like it's more of a pretty garnish that I'd eat in small amounts, as a special side dish, not as a main course (although you certainly could have it as a main course). I looked online and noticed that it's not as expensive there as it was in my local store. There are also recipes for it online.
