I take curcumin and turmeric, too. It's great for all the reasons April mentioned. Taking it with black pepper enhances its effectiveness, so I either mix turmeric with black pepper and fill my own empty gelatin capsules with the mixture, or put some pepper on my food when I take the supplement.
Black pepper in itself is a great antioxidant. It's most effective when freshly ground.
