I think the kind of sinus infections we suffer from are a combination of viruses and inflammation. If they were bacterial, by this point we would all have brain abscesses! My husband suffered terribly from sinus problems for the last 10 years, mainly because his sinuses were so inflammed that nothing ever drained out of them. He had the surgery of having his sinuses reamed out and has been absolutely fine ever since. The pre surgery cat scan of his sinuses was startling in how inflammed the sinuses were and how little open space was present. As far as WHY the inflammation was there, no explanation...just 60 years of breathing polluted air and woodworking? Now he uses the neti pot faithfully, but it never seems to do much for me.
