what a terrible article. What is Humphries' point? that the balance of power/strength is shifting from northside to southside? What do accents have to do with anything? Is he implying that theres a rougher type of player on the northside? Or that the southside have just discovered hurling? If so why didn't he just say that rather than spout that patronising rubbish?
There has always been an unbalanced bias towards northside players on Dublin teams. That has always been the way, until recently. The change came about because of the strength of Ballyboden, who have been dominating the county panel for the last number of years. Though they haven't converted their strength at club level into trophies (bar the most recent championship of course), they have still been the most talented hurling team in the county for quite a while.
A couple of questions for Tom. Who was Dublin's last hurling allstar? Who is the top scorer in a minor Leinster final? Who is the last Dublin player to win a man of the match award in a Leinster final? What side of the city do all of the above come from?
You'd swear Ballyboden and Crokes were never any use at hurling before very recently from reading that.
Unless I'm completely missing the point?
