My biggest concern about Fri nights match was the decision or lack of decision by the management. Just two examples highlights this. Putting Lally at midfield was just ludicrous. No disrespect to the lad but there is no way is he a midfielder. Whatever chance he has of making the team is up in the forwards. For management to put him in that position shows they haven’t a clue. Also David Henry is a fine player but Fri night he got a roasting. It was obvious he should have been switched from the player he was marking early in the game. For us to win the All Ireland this year it’s pivotal for our success that management identify problems when they arise during a game and make the changes immediately.
Also lack of discipline is another feature of Dublin’s play that could come back and haunt us in the summer. Constantly mouthing at the ref, shoving a hand into an opponents face, shouting into an opponents face after scoring a point and all that stuff could be penalised heavily in a crucial match come the summer. It’s management’s responsibility to instil a disciplined approach for games and so far I have not seen evidence. I’m aware that other teams are guilty of these offences but I’m only concerned about Dublin. It would be just our luck for some ref to stamp down on things like this when we are involved in a championship match.
My main worry for the championship is not the team it’s the management.
Notwithstanding all that I take the point that it was a win so well done to all on the panel.
Incidentally the guy making the presentation looked as if he had just got word of a family bereavement. He didn’t look too happy handing over the cup to Alan Brogan.
