Incidentally I forgot to mention that I brought the mother in law back to the vets last Saturday for a booster jab, and on the way back called in to O’Toole Park to see the relegation battle between Crumlin and Faughs. As you know by now Crumlin won 2-12 to 1-12. The score line flattered Faughs because Crumlin were much the better team. Faughs scrambled a goal in the last minute. For this match the ref had neutral umpires and the pitch was marked out. No disrespect to Faughs but it was good to see Crumlin a south side team from a working class area retain their place in the senior league. In general they seemed to be a lot lighter than Faughs. In fact their number 5 is probably the smallest player I have seen play in this division. But what he lacked in height and weight he made up for in skill and determination.
Faughs management didn’t seem to have a clue how to deal with Crumlin. They left their smallest player marking Shane Martin who scored 1-4. Eventually as the match was in the final ten minutes Shane Martin dropped back to mark the number 11 on Faughs because he looked the only threat they had. But for some reason Faughs took him off.
However well done to Crumlin and commiserations to Faughs. By the way I see a successful senior south Dublin hurling team is looking for a manager I wonder is this for Faughs.
