THE Dublin County Board will have to instigate a disciplinary investigation after a match official was reportedly knocked unconscious at a high-profile SFC game over the weekend.
Linesman Brian O'Shea was struck after the final whistle of the Dublin SFC game between St Vincents and Na Fianna at Parnell Park last Saturday night.
'Vincent's won the game by a point to qualify for the last eight after Na Fianna played the entire second-half with 14 men, corner-back Aidan Downes having been sent off just before the interval.
Downes got dismissed after O'Shea drew referee Andrew McAllister's attention to an incident.
After the game, however, there was an ugly scene when a crowd gathered at the entrance to the clubhouse as the officials were entering. It was at this point that O'Shea was struck. Top Dublin officials were present and some may have seen the incident at close quarters as they tried to restore order, but it remains to be seen if the culprit can be identified.
