If, however, you are not sure how you might react to seeing someone who is receiving benefit from your loss, then take more time to think about it. You will not be able to recapture you sons image or viewpoint from the recipients. It was very helpful to me to be able to say "thank you" to my donors family, and they tell me that it does them good, too.

Most organ recipients have such a sense of gratitude that they would love to be able to say thank you to somebody besides the doctors. But a lot of recipients feel a bit reluctant to contact families for fear of reopening old wounds.
