I just happened to find this website. My baby was not quite 19 when he died. But I wanted to tell you it is so great that you wanted to get in touch with the donor family! I have heard from two (a young 14 yr. old girl who got one of Chris' kidneys and a gentleman in his 50's who got a lung). The young girl and her family still keep in touch with me! My sons died in August of 1999.
Both of my sons died from a wreck - my older son, DJ, fell asleep driving. Chris was on life support for 5 days - they decided they had done all they could for Chris' the day we buried DJ. I know of five people who were helped. The person who received his liver, his heart, and other kidney have never responded. I sent a packet to all the recipients - but it is their choice if they want to respond. Usually the donor society will take a letter from you and give it to the donor family. Then it is up to them. That is a hard thing to live through though. I miss my sons so much! But I had to tell you thank you - for the family whose child helped yours!!!! Thank you for caring!!! :-)
God Bless you and your family - and God Bless that beautiful heart that keeps on going! I feel that some of the love of the person who gave it goes with it! My baby has got to be so proud that he helped so many when he left this earth! He was a picture of health - so whoever the man is that received his heart will have a hard time keeping up with that love filled heart of Chris'!!!! He snow boarded, climbed rocks, mountain biked, and worked out all the time!!!
