Hi, my name is Jody, and I've just found this forum. Four years ago my brother passed, but we were very fortunate to be able to donate. As I understand it, he had at least 4 living recipients, Heart, Liver, and both Kidneys. I'm not sure if there were others.
Unfortunately, he was living in Indiana at the time (my parents live in NY, and I live in FL), so the Transplant Coordinator is not a local person for any of us. Because of my further distance, I feel even more removed from all of the communication. We have heard from the Heart and Liver donors, but nothing else at this point. The Indiana Transplant Coordinator made it pretty clear that all communication should refrain from detailed places and names. I know I read one of Carolyn's posts where she indicated that she put her email address in a letter, but from what I have heard, it sounds like the Indiana Coordinator would take it out before delivering the letter. They made it pretty clear that they would not assist/condone any efforts at meeting.
Just within the last week or two, we've received a second letter from the Heart recipient, a 52 yo ER Surgeon/Med School Professor with four children. We also had a letter some time ago from his brother, making three letters in all. In each of them, our recipient and family seem like amazing people. I am interested in seeing if there is a way that I can find him without going through the Transplant Coordinator. Are there web sites or other places to look to see if the recipient has put any information online, perhaps searching for us? Any suggestions or insight that you might have would be appreciated.
