I highly recommend AGAINST any fence other than a physical one. I see a lot of dogs hit by cars, attacked by dogs, and attacked by wild animals who come in with their IF collars still on. It pins your dog in your yard if something is coming at it. If it runs off, it is much less likely to return to your yard. For your dogs safety, spend the money and safely fence off an area.
BTW, I've also seen some nasty wounds from the collars.
