Hiya Derek,
The good news is- it can be done and JMM gave you the method. We fostered an iggy boy who'd never been outside nor out of his pen. He was starved and abused but only a puppy. Once we got him over his ailments and got him to proper weight (we did the crate and tether method.) He was excellent. Caught on in mere days (when supervised and always leashed for all outs (round the clock) Our trained dogs assisted us in getting him to see the light as to where to go. *G* BTW imho having housetrained many breeds iggy's are not as difficult as some others (yorkies- gee whiz!) Gonna add another link about housetraining puppies- just to back up JMM's info. BTW love the breed. Darling, endearing and so beautiful. They are wonderful! Our boy baby igglet went on to live with another iggy, a girl and happily ever after. We could hardly stand to part with him. They are sighthounds in tiny form though- so that means constant leash and watch the squirrels and other critters who dare to enter the area during potty duties. VBG The iggy likes to sic moving things instead of mind his own dog duty business. So be certain to play and romp- but only after the missions are accomplished- so to speak. And every couple of hours. Small bladders more frequently emptied lead to a routine and also are kinder to the rugs during puppy training. Watch out for yorkies though. Also, oh never mind! OK!
