Ah hah. Well, it sounds like you've been fiendishly fond of dogs since the jump. Me, too. I was in the pen as a toddler while the dogs ran free. So, what that makes us both, would reckon is: folks who like dogs. - But folks who may think different thunks - as to various and sundry "how to's" of canine stewardship.
I've only two (aren't you lucky there) examples of dogs running free at places where we'd hope a wrangler was amid wrangle but was not. First one- new groomer took over my old groomer's client list. A top groomer with a rep for skill and who showed dogs and who etc. Had the nerve to expire. His fam sold his successful bidness to some twinkleheads with notions. One of their notions was- no cages and all dogs mingling and romping. Weee. A little something perhaps that should be conveyed to clients. *G* Anyway, we went for the scheduled appointment of the ten blade and hand scissoring anointment - only to find this: My gorgeous dogs looked like ed scissorhands had busted a move on their traditional clip patterns (that was bad enough) but the real deal breaker was- my then four pound pup was being held by the shop owner's three year old child- on the floor, without a collar or lead (the dog, not the kid) and she was gripping the dog so hard the almond eyes were nearly bulging out while she held onto one back leg. The other poodle (five pounds) was in the corner of the shop, cornered there by large fury dogs who may or may not have intended to eat her. She had plenty of skills and had been among many large dogs- but dogs under some control by owners.
This all dogs together concept is fraught with peril for dogs and also for kennel/groomer- whatever. Being an idiot, we went back once more - with instructions to crate our gals for safety and also for their peace of mind. Right- the next time- the kid was holding both my dogs on the floor- amid say a dozen or so large beasts milling around- and also one or two escaped when I opened the door to the shop. Managed to wrangle them back in- no thanks to the shop owners btw. Paid for the grooms and got the hades out of there. Place closed in mere months. Free roaming germs, bad grooming and a sort of steve king horror movie possible for no extra charge. Egad. Revolting.
The other (brief, aren't you glad) was a tale of a pal who purposely boarded her dog in a "every dog runs free" kennel without crates. All temperament tested prior and what all before being allowed. Did that for a couple of years with her precious dog and dog was always fine and dandy. Then, the place was no more- Pal found the. boarded up boarding establishment closed without notice. Rumor unleashed was owner sued as one beastie chewed another and the lesser had a near death experience, plus a headache. Pal finally got a hold (scruff of neck) the once-owner to as "what happened?" Some dog got chewed, a fight ensued and insurance not renewed and etc.
