to see the 3K9s being held by the statue. Very funny. (Not a flexi accident? Whew LOL)
The more I see people with dogs the less I think people should own dogs. Their hearts are in the right place but educating themselves is asking too much.
I spoke with one woman about doggie classes and she was offended by my suggested instructor. Apparently the dog owner thought the instructor's approach would wipe out her dog's personality (she was serious). Which part I wonder? The drag and choke walks or the recreational barking?
I couldn't be an instructor. I'm losing patience with people who can not understand that their kids, dogs, and teens don't reason the same way they do. And I totally agree that flexis do not belong in a training class. But I'm sure we agree that the large majority of dog walkers we run into should be in a training class (though I suspect they would prefer CM the DW over my more taciturn instructor).
I'm not perfect by a long shot and seem to learn new things everyday (no it's not alzheimers - it's actual new stuff :o)
Speaking of - got a video on "Your puppy 8 weeks to 8 months" by Ed Frawley (Leerburg GS). Also read Ian Dunbar's book on puppies.
What do you think of these trainers? I was looking for the developmental stages of a puppy but found I was interested in how the trainers interacted with their dogs. I at first thought Dunbar was a bit extreme - like never feed the puppy from a dish - all food should be packed in kongs - but now I see the method in his madness - guess zoos pay big bucks for this type of 'environmental enrichment'. Frawley seems kind but the puppies appear to reside in crates a good deal of the time.
Are there other good books/dvds/trainers you'd recommend?
