I spoke to my good friend and wonderful behaviorist. I think she nailed it on the head that he has some anxiety tendencies and we've been lucky with his great socialization not to notice things. She asked about some subtle things and was right on about his sensitivity. One great clue we have is his diabetes insipidus...any stress results in PU/PD. She suggested some holistic remedies, trying offering him more freedom (some dogs with SA do better not crated), etc... I also asked if since he has tendencies, would it be a good idea to work with sounds CDs and such just to cover our bases. She thought that was an excellent idea. She did think, especially since it exacerbates the DI, light sedatives to take the edge off in very stressful situations would be a good plan.
Any other ideas to help up be proactive or other things we can do at the apartment (plan right now would be to try the natural remedy and leave him loose with Soda for very brief periods - out, back in, out, back in, etc. and work up the time if he handles it; have a stronger sedative on hand if needed)?
